Welcome
I make art quilts. My work is designed to take advantage of the unique characteristics of textiles, fibers, and related materials. I employ a variety of surface design techniques including hand-dyeing and over-dyeing, pole-dyed and thread-resisted silk Shibori, paint, ink, markers, pastel pencils, dextrin resists, discharge, computer printing on fabric, foiling, embroidery, and both hand and machine stitching.
Recent work is shown in the Galleries. I also accept commissions, specializing in "office art" for professionals such as financial planners, doctors, and attorneys. If you would like to discuss your requirements for original fine art quilts to enhance your office environment, please send me a message via the Contact page.
Other comments and questions are also welcomed.

This is an earlier quilt, made in 2000 for the exhibit "The Roots of Racism: Ignorance and Fear," organized by Susan Lumsden. It references the struggle of my daughter to assert her identity as a mixed-race child against bureaucracies ranging from the US Census Bureau to schools and universities, who inevitably tried to force her to claim inclusion in just one racial category.
The exhibit traveled widely throughout the United States and was then chosen for the US Art in Embassies program, where it was installed in the official residence of the Ambassador to Pakistan in Islamabad for several years. The quilt finally came home to me in late 2005. It is now in the collection of Sarah Lydia Sanborn North
